If you’re a Delivery Manager joining an organisation, do this.

Always know your path to live.

The faster you can get a picture of your path to live, the better the odds of your delivery succeeding.

As soon as possible draw out the path to live as a diagram, make sure you include

  • Development stage
  • The testing activities needed and how long they take
  • The environments (if they are shared, what happens in each, how to book and shortcomings),
  • The governance you need to meet, CRB, CAB and lead times for each
  • Release process
  • Key people involved at each stage

Then introduce yourself to the people involved at each stage, show them your diagram, amend as needed, by doing this you will be building relationships, getting some credit in the bank and also improving your team’s effectiveness.

Get ahead of the game, before something trips you up.

Would you add anything to this from your experience?
